Since 1997, Hong Kong belongs to China, just as before 1997 it belonged to the UK. But it has a separate legal system from China. ESTINA IS NOT IN CHINA. SHE IS IN HONG KONG. SHE IS NOT FACING THE DEATH PENALTY. THE BEIJING GOVERNMENT HAS GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH HER CASE. THE CHINESE COURTS HAVE GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH HER CASE. SHE WILL BE TRIED IN HONG KONG COURTS. Hong Kong is in China but has different laws..no death penalty for drug trafficking. Don’t be stupid, if you do not know anything. There is a fine of HK$5,000,000 and imprisonment for life..when one is convicted of drug trafficking.
When you enter Hong Kong, you go through HK immigration. When you leave HK to enter China, you go through both HK and China immigration. Two different places. “Fine of 5,000,000 and life imprisonment” is not practised. In my 33 years in HK I’ve never heard of an overseas drug mule being fined even one dollar. Nor have I heard of anyone getting life imprisonment for drug dealing. Max sentence is usually around 21 years … when people say “not guilty” and lose ….and therefore don’t get the 1/3 discount for guilty please which would reduce 21 to 14 …… Read more »
The problem in our area is the luck of opportunities in this country that leaves pipo venerable. We can say choice yes but what do we expect when you are stranded and you have no where to go? Are these country poor? Why always look for scapegoat to blame government on our own mistakes. Was government there when she was cooking these criminal plans? What is more worrying is that you don’t even know that the scourge of drug abuse is pretty much associated with a deprivation, decline in social fabric including poverty. Even in western countries communities that are hard-hit and rampant with drug abuse are impoverished, high unemployment, etc. Of course it is not a cause per say, but closely linked.

Samuel you are wise. I believe its not good kunyoza when your opinion differs with some body’s opinion. Just the same with pointing fingers whether one is tumbuka,yao, chewa, or any tribe those things are bad lets be civilised.
To say the drug trafficking is encouraged by foreigners is wrong,it might be initiated by them but encouraged by our law enforcement agencies,if they didn’t we would have by now have lots of foreigners in our jails serving time. Go check in our prisons how many of the traffickers arrested at our airports are serving or are remanded pending trial chances are none.
Bravo our parliament. Let us protect each other in times like these. We know she was not right, but she is our own blood and no one is perfect. Government should also wake up and realise that Its major duty is to protect Its people within and outside. A caring government is seen during such circumstances.
