Malawi police arrest man for gay sex with underage boy

Malawi Police say Davie Ngwira, 32, who comes from Kankhande Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Chilowamatambe in Kasungu, but works for Blantyre City Council (BCC) was arrested after being suspected to be sleeping with an underage boy.

Ngwira was freed on bail but charged with sodomy.GRANNY'S RAPE

Blantyre police spokesperson Elizabeth Divala said Ngwira is suspected to have been giving the boy between K100 (about US$0.25) and K200 ($0.50) after the gay sex.

According to Divala,  the suspect  has been having the sexual relationship with the boy since April this year until September when the father of the 12-year-old boy reported the matter to police, leading to the arrest.

A medical report confirmed that the 12-year-old boy was having anal sex with a man, police spokeswoman said.

The case is expected to be heard at the Blantyre Magistrate’s Court on October 16

Gift Trapence, executive director of the Centre for the Development of the People (Cedep), an organisation that champions sexual minority rights,  said there is no problem with consenting adults of the same sex having sex in private but  sex with minors is unacceptable.

In 2009 a gay couple Tiwonge Chimbalanga and Steven Monjeza were arrested and convicted 14 years for publicly wedding.

But former president the late Bingu wa Mutharika pardoned them following an outcry from the international community.

Homosexuality is illegal in Malawi based on remnants of sodomy laws introduced during the British colonial era. The laws are perpetuated by cultural and religious beliefs.

Trapense or is it Tenpense , homosexuality is illegal in Malawi. No matter who is paying you to advance this sodomy cause of yours, the act remains illegal . Why would you then say there is no problem with two homosexuals having sex in private ?
