Malawi Police nab 66 Ethiopians in Ntchenachena Hills: Illegal immigrants
Scores of foreign nationals continue infiltrating into Malawi in spite of the country’s ceaseless efforts to stop the scourge by instituting their arrest on countless occasions.
Last Sunday’s development was no isolated case when police in Rumphi arrested 66 Ethiopian nationals and charged them with entering the country without valid documents.
The district’s Head of Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Inspector Hundra Moyo, confirmed the arrest, saying the suspected illegal immigrants were arrested in Zombe Forest near Chiweta Hills in the district where they were hiding.
According to Inspector Moyo, community members came across the suspected illegal immigrants loitering in the forest and reported the matter to Ntchenachena Police who immediately mobilised themselves to arrest the aliens.
“Ntchenachena Police received information that there were people suspected to be foreigners hiding in the Zombe Forest. Upon getting the information, the police mobilised themselves and went to the site where they found the suspects and arrested them,” Moyo explained.
When the police searched and questioned the suspects, who are in the age range of 18 to 35, it was discovered they did not have valid documents warranting their entry into the country.
The suspected illegal immigrants also told police detectives during interrogation they were on their way to Lilongwe to look for work but were dropped in the forest (Zombe) between 5 and 6th December (2015) by unknown people.
“The suspects will be taken to court soon to answer charges of illegal entry into the country,” Moyo added.
Meanwhile, the law enforcers in the district have launched massive manhunt for the suspects who aided the illegal aliens and if caught, they will answer the charge of human trafficking, according to police.
On several occasions, police in the district have succeeded in intercepting scores of illegal immigrants, through arrest, that have entered the country through its northern boarders.–Mana

United you will be the greatest Country on Earth.
Africa is one land mass, therefore should be one country. Ethiopians are very good people – they deserve freedom like that in Malawi too. Their African brothers in Malawi, Zambia, Tanzania, South Africa, Mozambique and all others where there is genuine freedom, must receive them and help them. Heads of African States are busy forging Africa into one amalgamated state right now. Soon there will be no borders inside Africa , so let’s keep that in mind.
Something is not adding up. http://www.africacradle.com puts Ethiopia as the second most influential country in Africa. And it’s citizens prefer to leave in little known Malawi.
To come all the way from Ethiopia these people have crossed so many borders. How was that possible? it means people have been buying their way all the way from Ethiopia to Malawi and they want to claim refugee status here? From my own perception a genuine refugee cannot move across so many borders because they don’t posses the financial muscle to carry them through. These people should be sent back to their country fourth with. Terrorist move like this. Ask Kenya they will surely know one or two things.
Ma rubbish business. Deport them like they do to our brothers in South Africa. Put them on the next flight to Ethiopia and send the bill to their government. What are you waiting for?
