Malawi President Mutharika ‘falling’ picture  goes viral on social media

Malawi President Peter Mutharika’s picture showing him faling down with security detail helping him up is now trending on social media attracting different views from a cross section of Malawians.

Some people are sympathising with the President, saying it is wrong to publish such a picture because he is human and he is likely to trip and fall just like any other ordinary person.

The Sunday Times has published the picture on its front page, saying it was taken when the President tripped and fell just outside Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe where he had gone to plant trees.

The picture shows the presidential detail helping the gigantic, towering president up.

There was no immediate response from State House to say whether the president is injured or not.

A cross section of other Malawians however have started questioning the health of Mutharika who failed to attend the John Chilembwe Day commemorations on January 15 in Chiradzulu and Rose Chibambo burial ceremony on January 16 although State House confirmed his attendance.

This is the second time that Malawians have seen pictures of their head of state down.

The first was in the 1990s when Kamuzu Banda fell at a Commonwealth heads of meeting in Zimbabwe

Mutharika might be down at his Kamuzu Palace physically but politically he is not yet down, analysts have warned.
