Kalilani’s car crash near Jenda

Although details of the accident were still sketchy, Kalilani confirmed he  was out of danger and would be able to return to work immediately.

“I was travelling for official duties to Mzuzu and was in the company of my wife, Carol,” sadi Kalilani.

The presidential spokesman said  there is no need to worry as  he is in a stable condition.

“We have both been treated as out patients at Jenda Health Centre,” he said.

“We sincerely thank the community around the accident spot. Police, health personnel and State House colleagues that came to help us,” he added.

State House spin doctor Bright Molande said Kalilani suffered “minor injuries on the head and shoulder.2

But the accident is likely to spark renewed specualation of attempts to eliminate some people with organised accidents.

Malawi  is also notorious for fatal accidents involving politicians and public figures, which are never adequately explained.

Several other prominent people are being  killed in a car accidents the recnt one being chairman of Roads Authority James Gomani. Others include ruling DPP secretary general Eclen Kudontoni,  Bishop Joseph Mukasa Zuza and journalists Raphael Tenthani.

  1. Mgeme take care please. You are in the wrong direction. Komanso ngati simusamala mudzafa osauka. Umutsiyatu mwana wako Umunthu and sister for issue

  2. Some are saying it is God punishing Mgeme for insulting Chakwera or the opposition. Some are looking at this accident as the work of the other DPP gurus who do not wish Mgeme well. Others are saying it is because he is an atheist. All these are just wishes of the opposition devils. Accidents are there to remain with us. Mgeme survived an accident and you say God is punishing him. What about Tenthani whose accident resulted into death? God loved him? These comments are the indications that anti-DPP DEVILS will not stop crying for spilt milk. The 2014 loss is still haunting them. Since there are all indications that the DPP will win the 2019 elections these guys will continue crying lick their wounds. It should be known that the cries of Chakwera, Kamlepo, Chihana and the Uladis gives courage to the ruling party because they know from this lamentation that the guys are really bruised.
Please read again the Analyst comment. I think it can uproot the weeds from your heads.

  3. An accident is an accident, fellow Malawians let’s stop associating people’s accidents to witchcraft or staged accident always.
To my brother Mgeme Kalilani, God loves you brother Mgeme.
But if it is true that you don’t believe in Jesus nor the existence of God, then I plead with you brother Mgeme to immediately change your thinking.
This is God who has saved you from this fatal accident.

  4. Dear Mgeme,
Start soul searching now. You have demonized a lot of innocent lives. You have tarnished the image of many to the powers that be. It is high time you turned to God and repented. You have a loud mouth that is also a calculating liar.

I hear you are an etheist, you are the funniest idiot that God ever created. Who the hell are you to think God does not exist. Do you then think that it is your devil that has saved your life in that accident.

I want to know if empty bottles of Carlsberg lite were not found in that MBC car. Paja umakonda carlsberg paka bar kako kaja.

By the way why did our Lord save your life? You needed to die on the spot so that the lies at state house could stop.

  5. Our roads are old and outdated. Motorits need to be very careful with at which speed they travel on. Accidents are a daily occurrences.

  6. may his soul rest in piece, mulungu àlinanu a mgeme. timakudalirani my media circles in Malawi. anthu anzeru amafa msànga chifukwà chofuna kugwirtsidwa ntchito zosayenera,,,,,, a mgeme taluza anthu anzeru ngati achina dunduzu, gadama, matenje, lunguzi…,..nkhani zake ndi ndale. chenjerani bwana.

  7. Most Malawi roads were designed and constructed in the 70s, 80s and 90s for instance when road design/construction technologies were at their infancy as compared to those of today. For instance today’s design on curves for adequate super-elevation to counter centrifugal forces based on various parameters like speed, curve radius, curve length etc has improved tremendously.

Most existing highways here Malawi were designed and constructed to design speeds of 80 km/hr and yet vehicles today operate at speeds exceeding 140 km/hr on an 80 km/hr road. As a result, accidents will invariably happen, notably on curves.

I do not subscribe to the idea of government sponsored or witch craft accidents! Our roads are simply outdated and require modern road design technologies supported by government sound transportation policies.

Mind you, I do not incline myself to any political party as it is a waste of you principals, integrity and your earthly time.!!

  9. I thank God for the life of Mgeme and his wife Carol. As someone has written and if true that Mgeme does not believe in God, this is indeed the right time for him to accept Jesus as his Lord and personal saviour. It helps a lot to believe in Jesus. Jesus does not care how much evil someone has been and apostle Paul says “Behold, if any man is in Christ, the old is gone and the new is come.” Amen and Amen. Glory be to God!

Its high time people stopped refusing to use even the slightest portion of their brain. Nanga inu . . .
. . . How many “ordinary” people are involved in road accidents, if not countless? Do we attribute their fate to organised accidents [by their enemies or friends]?
. . . Cant we see that we are not being honest (with ourselves) and fair (to others), when we always attribute accidents of people with sir-names only to workings of their enemies, and accidents of people with no name-tags to nothing but their own recklessness?
. . . Yes, we may unwillingly accept the shaky theory that Raphael Tenthani’s accident was organised by regime thugs (for he was very critical of and honest with govt); but how do you relate the fate of someone [already in govt] to organised accidents by regime thugs? How has Mgeme become an enemy of the same govt he [thoughtlessly] defends? If its some people [in govt] hoping to take his position [after the elimination], what is the probability of these people being picked for the position, if not as minimal as equal to anybody’s.
. . . Good people, let us stop being ungrateful to the Almighty by refusing to think, yet we are blessed with something that resembles a brain.
    ………………………..
    Truth is . . .
. . . Malawi’s roads are as narrow as they are bad. Even Zuma (the SA’s President) can attest to this.
. . . Moreover, Malawi has [more than less] drivers who lack even the slightest trait of intelligence and/or wisdom. Thus, they drive while drunk, they overspeed on these narrow and bad roads, overtake even on blind spots, don’t understand “right of way” hence kumangolowa mumseu basi, etc and Mgeme is not an exception.
. . . Sadly, no any amount of education helps, as even the most learned are just as lousy.
Unless we understand and accept we have a problem [with our roads and drivers], we shall continue to speculate [that accidents in Malawi are workings of enemies] and thus find no solution to the same.
    O…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..O

    1. The analyst I agree with you. We are good at associating accidents with ufiti and regime thugs but the fact most our drivers do not know malamulo apamseu. We are all drivers and even traffic policemen who are supposed to know how to drive.

    2. The Analyst: well written on the second paragraph.

To add to that most Malawi roads were designed and constructed in the 70s, 80s and 90s for instance when road design/construction technologies were at their infancy as compared to those of today. For instance today’s design on curves for adequate super-elevation to counter centrifugal forces based on various parameters like speed, curve radius, curve length etc has improved tremendously.

Mind you, I do not incline myself to any political party as it is a waste of you principals, integrity and your earthly time.!!

  11. God is trying to tell something to Mgeme who is an atheist, my Brother Mgeme this is a wake up call to start believing in God its not too late

  12. Kalilani doesnt believe in God. Amati Mulungu kulibe so all those taljing about God here, please better stop otherwise he is thanking lucifer for saving him

  13. I was one of the people who thought that these accidents are organized or demon influenced, but when I started driving ooh..Malawians are very poor on the road. You talk of positioning, kulowa mumseu osayang’ana kaye, over speeding, emergency stoppage, etc. For sure we are committing suicide. Christians please lets not only binding demons on accidents but lets pray that roads authorities should be serious on monitoring driving performance and provide defensive driving lessons to all by compulsory, another way is that those driving automatic cars should be tested on a spot check basis to find out if they really attended full driving lessons because ambiri they are just buying ma license and drive only automatic cars. Minibus drivers should not be left out as well.

  14. Brother you will lose your life there at State House. There are big people there. Find another job
anywhere also. Ufwenge uko fumba wanyako. Ndiwe kamwana kachoko. Leave that area for old men.

  15. But to link the accident to political assassination is out of order and extreme speculation. Lets avoid this useless senseless thinking.

  16. Glory to Jesus Christ for his survival. But as one of survivors to deadly accident (vehicle overturning six times to a 9 metres cliff) I largely attribute fatal accidents to speedy driving / inconsiderate driving. We should always avoid rushing to somewhere when we could have left in good time or a day before. Abuse of alcohol and drugs is another cause.

  17. Organised accidents indeed….muthana nokha a DPP pamene ife a MCP Mulungu akutiteteza usiku ndi usana.

  18. This was an accident. The worst thing a journalist can do is to speculate and write what they think rather facts. Many accidents in Malawi happen due to over-speeding and reckless driving. This spot of the road is dangerous because it has sharp bends. Generally, the condition of our roads is poor. If u drive 100km and above, you are inviting death.
