Malawi puts up decent fight against New Zealand: Mwawi nets 42 in Queens 49- 68 loss to Ferns

Malawi Queens on Sunday matched world netball champions New Zealand in several periods of their second game of the three test series despite losing 68-49.

New Zealand-bound Malawian shooter Mwai Kumwenda was particularly impressive, shooting 42 of her side’s 49 goals, and wowing the crowd with her athletic leaps.

Kumwenda will likely be a target for the Ferns defence in Thursday’s final test in Hamilton.

Malawi trailed by 12 points at half time, but picked up its attacking flair to win the third quarter by two goals, regularly pushing its deficit to within single figures.

Kumwenda scored 42 of Malawi’s goals and shot at an 89 percent rate.

The final dead-rubber match of the series will be held in Hamilton on Thursday.
