Malawi Queens beat Zambia to book final berth with South Africa in Diamonds Challenge
Malawi Queens cruised through into the finals of the Diamonds Challenge Netball Tournament on Thursday evening after beating Zambia 60-34 in a one sided affair at Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa.
The Queens will face their rivals South Africa on Friday at the Ugu Sports Centre in Margate.
Coach Piece Chawinga-Kaluwa maintained the squad of Joyce Mvula (Ellen Chiboko)(GS), Sindi Simtowe (GA), Thandi Galeta (Rose Mkanda) (WA), Takondwa Lwazi (C), Joana Kachilika (Grace Mwafulirwa-Mhango)(WD), Carol Mtukule-Ngwira (GD), Towera Vinkhumbo-Nyirenda (GK).
The massive support from South African supporters encouraged the Queens to slaughter the She-Chipolopolo with 15-8, 27-18 and 46-24 leads in the first three-quarters, before finishing them off in the last quarter .
However, it was Blue Eagles Sisters slippery shooter Joyce Mvula who was a darling to watch in the first and second quarter when notching in baskets with the combination of Complex Tigresses evergreen attacker Sindi Simutowe.
Mvula was however, substituted in the fourth quarter for versatile Ellen Chibokho.
Malawi evergreen shooter Sindi Simutowe was chosen player of the match and she went away with K120 000 prize (R3000).
Malawi Queens coach Kaluwa was on cloud nine hailing her troops for an outstanding performance.
“The girls played very well and the shooters were brilliant. We have now to focus in tomorrows final against South Africa,” said Kaluwa.
