Malawi star Chiukepo among worst foreign strikers in SA Absa league

Dejected Flames and former Orlando Pirates forward Chiukepo Msowoya has been rated as one of the worst foreign strikers to have played in the South African top flight ABSA Premier Soccer League.

Kick-Off, South Africa’s leading soccer magazine, has compiled the list of 30 worst foreign strikers in the PSL era.

Other players appearing on the list are Shingi Kawondera, Serge Djiehoua, Kabanga Tshamala, Norikazu Murakami, Bryan Aldave, Aubin Takutchie, Elton Morelato, Louis Agyemang, Rodreck Mutuma, Joseph Masel and Ibrahim Omotayo.

The 30 players failed to make a mark in their PSL career despite their reputation. Msowoya has been rated 19th among the worst foreign strikers.

“Msowoya was touted as being better than Didier Drogba back home by some Malawi fans when Ivory Coast arrived in Blantyre for an Afcon qualifier four years ago.

“However, his time at Pirates was difficult, he was handed 15 starts (plus two substitute appearances) in his first year (2010-11) at the Club, reaping just two goals- one in the cup and one in the PSL, which was a beauty against Ajax Cape Town,” reported the publication.

And during his short stint at Platinum Stars, the former Escom player scored a single goal in four games.

Meanwhile, Msowoya, who started his football journey at Kradd FC, has joined Big Bullets after the expiry of his contract with his Mozambican club, Costa do Sol.

Msowoya needs to have pace, learn to dribble past defenders, good passes and so on. But what he knows is to wait in the box and then fire at the goal. So if he is tightly marked he can’t find the net.

May be the clubs were too small for him to perform better. In other words he was too big for these club. By the way how is the general performance of the said clubs?
