Malawi VP Kachali using Chief Mbelwa for PP political campaign

Malawi Vice President Khumbo Kachali is using Inkosi ya Makosi Mbelwa as one of the campaign megaphones for ruling People’s Party (PP) in Mzimba bye-elections.

The bye-elections in Mzimba South West and Mzimba Central constituency to take place on October 9 will be the first competitive election since the PP formed government five months ago.

Kachali who was MP for Mzimba Central before he was appointed Vice President is head of the campaign in the constituency and has been addressing a number of rallies with Inkosi Mbelwa one of the people drumming up support for candidate Aram Mdala Wedson Beza.

Inkosi Mbelwa: Campaigns for PP

Mbelwa had strong links with the Malawi Congress Party regime and became one of the “political operatives” of UDF under Bakili Muluzi including drumming up support for third presidential term which failed.

He then became an operative of DPP under the reign of late Bingu wa Mutharika and was on the forefront insulting Kachali when he fell out of grace with the powers then.

But when Kachali was appointed vice president, the paramount chief apologised to him in the presence of his subjects who included senior chiefs Mtwalo and Mpherembe, T/As Kampingo Sibande, Chindi and Khosolo, members of the Ngoni heritage among others.

During the reconciliatory meeting which was handled in a typical Ngoni tradition, Inkosi ya Makosi M’Mbelwa gave Kachali a cow and asked him to bury the hatchet and foster a new and positive working relationship.

Meanwhile, Kachali is using the chief to canvass votes for PP.

Speaking at a campaign rally addressed by the Vice President  at Mtende Primary School at Euthini in Mzimba , Inkosi Mbelwa s hailed President Mrs Joyce Banda for removing  “ the myth of a dead North. “

He said: “The number one development that has been there is to appoint a Vice President from this region. We are happy and we as Ngoni’s who know how to say thank you for any good tiding, say thank you by giving the President an MP.”

The Paramount Chief urged the people in Mzimba Central Constituency to vote for the ruling PP as a thank you to President Banda for appointing its son to be Malawi’s vice president.
