Malawi young writer determined to keep girls in school
Blantyre-based Glitter Ndovi has been accepted for a US$15,000 (about K7 million) international short story contest being administered by freeditorial.com, following in Muthi Nhlema’s footsteps who won 3rd place in the previous freeditorial contest.
Glitter Ndovi, a journalist by training, is in for her story ‘The Light After dawn.’ It is a story about a woman whose life turned upside down in a single day as her husband gets shot and she is accused of the shooting him.
Follow her in her journey to prove her innocence and protect her family.
Winning stories will be judged based on literary quality and number of downloads from freeditorial.com.

“I am requesting Malawians to support me by following the link and downloading PDF, Kindle or e- Reader versions to read the story,” she told Nyasa Times in an interview.
Asked what motivated her to write the story, the soft-spoken Ndovi said she wrote it with an aim to generate funds for her NGO ‘Tinyade’.
Her NGO is currently working around Chintheche in Nkhata Bay, northern Malawi.
“When I saw the advertisement calling for entries, I just thought this could help me to generate funds for ‘Tinyade’,” said Ndovi.
Through Tinyade, she works with primary school girls to bring drop outs back to school and to keep in school those that are at a risk of dropping out.
Her decision to compete for the award will not only help put Malawian writing on the map but also help girls get their education as 90 percent will be channeled to ‘Tinyade’.
