This boy together with David Banda who is at Benifica Academy in Portugal are beacons of hope for the future of Malawi football. If we can have at least five of such youngsters playing in Europe’s top academies while we strengthen our local academies, surely we should be able to produce our own Muhamad Salah’s, Victor Wanyama’s, Sadio Mane’s, Victor Moses’s , Eric Bailly’s among others.

Investing kids in sports reap far much better dividends than sending them to formal school. And that’s what most parents do in North, West and Central African nations: the Drogbas, Toures, etc. I should have been another Mo Salah if my parents had an opportunity to send me to a sports academy.

The same Manchester city has another Malawian in the name of Jeremy Weston (last name spelling to be checked). He must be in the under 17 now and plays as a defender. Malawi has talent but it needs full nurturing and exposure.

Reliving our lives through our children and taking their long term decisions for them when they are 9 years old.
That’s the way to go!
