Thank you, Ms Mkamanga. You have raised a vital issue. I would go even further and suggest that constituencies should identify worthy candidates now and impose them on the parties, so that at election time, the voters have good candidates to choose from, instead of the usual self-serving parasites.

PS I think you mean ‘ethnic censuses’, not ‘ethnic censors’.

We need young, vibrant, imaginative leaders who can plan, design and build Malawi so that it emulates Whats happening in Seattle, Silicon Valley, San Francisco, Singapore and Tokyo. These old tried and tested won’t get us there.

Emily Mkamanga…you have hit the nail on the head. This is where CSO’s, CAMA, Ministry of Civic Education, Labour, Private Sector and MEC should be spending most of their energies, if Malawi is to lift itself from abject poverty and graduate from being the poorest country in the world. It used to be that Civics was part of primary school curriculum in the 80’s and if it isn’t, then Min of Education should reintroduce it.
