Malawi’s DD Sunshine beat two Zambia sides, lose to Buffaloes

Malawi national women football champions DD Sunshine tumbled in their last game in Zambia on Monday where they were invited to be part of that country’s Independence Day celebrations.

The team started well on Saturday in their first game beating Red Arrows 4 – 2 at the Olympic stadium before humiliating Green Eagles 8 – 0  24 hours later.

But they found the going tough against Zambia’s national champions Green Buffaloes and they succumbed to a 4 – 1 defeat on Monday at the climax of that country’s 47th independence anniversary celebrations.

The team’s Director and coach David Dube told reporters that the game against the champions was tough but said his charges went down fighting.

“The girls gave out their best and its unfortunate we lost. Am impressed nevertheless with the two wins and one loss and the fighting spirit that was displayed by the girls,” he said.

The team’s top striker Tabitha Chawinga, Latifa Malunjika, Linda Kasenda and Melissa Krynjaic made scoring fun in the first two games.
