Malawi’s Muthi Nhlema in $15, 000 Int’l Short Story Award

Nhlema, a civil engineer by training, is in for his story ‘Ta O’reva.’

It is a story of a troubled young man who brutally murders an Afrikaner farmer in modern-day rural South Africa. Nelson Mandela is, then, brought back to life in a post-apocalyptic future where he is forced to question his legacy and face what maybe the hardest decision of his life: should he save South Africa again?

Information sourced by Nyasa Times reveals the winning stories will be judged based on literary quality and number of downloads from freeditorial.com. Nhlema’s book is available on the following link:https://freeditorial.com/en/books/ta-o-reva.

Nhlema, also a nominee for the 2014 Dede Kamkondo Short Story Award, is asking Malawians through social media to “follow the link and download PDF, Kindle or e-Reader formats to read the story.”

He told Nyasa Times that he was optimistic his acceptance to compete for the award “will help put Malawian writing on the map.”

This boy was at the Polytechnic and he went there despite Quota. he got his degree, nothing to do with abuyache Goodall Gondwe. This boys uncle was also at the Polytechnic as HOD, nothing to do with Goodall Gondwe.

If he has a remote anagula yekha, it did not come from Goodall Gondwe or his uncle $Gondwe.

Way to go comrade, you are such an inspiration. It indeed is not all about the prize money but putting our beloved Malawi on the map. You can do it, oh yes you can!
