Land-grabbing will continue for as long as we confuse urban multi-party democracy with national democracy. Currently, our political parties represent the interests of the 17% of Malawians who live in towns and cities and work in urban occupations. The vast majority of Malawians – the 83% – who live and work in the rural areas, on the land, have no representation in parliament that is committed to the furtherance of their interests. Look at the land in area 6 near maula prison. Was this not reserved for future expansion of the prison?
