Man arrested for raping daughter-in-law
Malawi Police in Mzimba have arrested 44 year old Langsman Mwale of Damaseko Mwale village, T/A Kampingo Sibande for sexually attacking his daughter in-law.
Mzimba police spokesperson Gift Nyirongo said on 29 April, 2012 the suspect had invited the daughter in-law 18-year-old daughter-in-law to his house after sending his wife away on an errand.
Nyirongo said when the daughter in-law entered the house; the suspect closed the door and dragged her to the bedroom where he had “unlawful sex” with her.
The victim narrated the whole ordeal to her husband.
”The matter was however treated as a family issue until May 22 when it was reported to Police,” Nyirongo said.
Police spokesman said members of the community got wind of the issue and reported it to village headman Damaseko Mwale who referred the matter to police, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
According to Nyirongo, the suspect who admitted to raping the daughter in-law blamed it on the devil.
He will appear in court soon to answer charges of rape contrary to section 132 of the penal code.
