Minister of Homeland Security Nicholas Dausi on Sunday slaughtered cattle and organised a merry making event in his Mwanza central constituency to prevent people from attending a UTM Party rally.
UTM vice-president Michael Usi, party patron Noel Masangwi and other UTM executive members stormed Mwanza on Sunday with a sole mission of selling and marketing party president Saulos Chilima in the Constitutional Court sanctioned fresh presidential election in July.
Dausi slaughtered the cow and promised to distribute free rice to prevent people from going to the rally after it was known that hundreds of people from his constituency and surrounding areas were to defect to UTM.
Speaking to the people, Usi reiterated his call for people to rally behind Chilima, saying he would improve the socioeconomic development of the country.
He said UTM has very competent people who are highly motivated by a genuine desire to create practical solutions that respond to the daily challenges faced by Malawians.
“You are always told by this government that our economy is doing very well by giving you so many economic indicators to demonstrate that.
“But how can the economy be said to be doing very fine and yet you can’t afford to feed your families, when you don’t know where your next meal will come from, is that a perfect economy?” he said.
He said UTM is very ready to form the next government after the fresh elections slated in July this year following the constitutional Court ruling earlier this month nullifying the May 21, 2019 election due to massive irregularities and glaring incompetence by the Malawi Election Commission (MEC), including cheating by DPP.
Speaking earlier, Masangwi chided Dausi for his failed attempts to put spanners in the works of the rally.
He said if Dausi was wise enough, he would have concentrated on bringing development to the constituency which he said was in a pathetic state.
Said Masangwi: “A very good example is this very place where we are having this rally today. How can a community stadium be so dilapidated like this and yet Member of Parliament for this area is a full Minister? This is no acceptable because development is your right and you must not let these people take you for granted.”
He added that another example is also how the DPP government is how it mismanaged maize stocks in state sailos.
“Government used all the maize that it had in stock for campaign purposes because they wanted to buy your votes. Now real hunger is biting; a bag of maize is at 20,000 kwacha whilst Dausi and his friends are nowhere to be seen only to come today with a bag of rice because he wants people not to come to a UTM rally. The good thing is that we now have an opportunity to remove this intensive government in the next four months,” said Masangwi.
Other speakers at the rally were Regional Governor, Steve Mikaya; Director of Elections, Paul Chibingu, Davies Katsonga, District Governor as well as Constituency Governors for Mwanza Central Constituency. Others also present at the rally were Organising Secretary, Wilet Karonga and executive members like Newton Kambala, Louis Ngalande, Felix Njawala and Bright Kawaga.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
