Masangwi not mafia or smuggler, says brother Salule
An elder brother to ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lawmaker Noel Masangwi, associate professor Ted Salule Masangwi has said the DPP politician’s life is being put “in danger” by Nyasa Times comments depicting him as mafia or smuggler.
Salule in a comment posted on Nyasa Times, said the comments posted online are “not only defamatory and slanderous” to his brother but “are also clearly putting his life in danger.”
President Peter Mutharika is on record describing Masangwi as a “smuggler” in a leaked gossip talk.
And recently Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) boss Ralph Kamoto suspended commissioner for exports Shadrec Namalomba for facilitating to clear nine trucks belonging to Noel Masangwi of round wood from Chikangawa meant for export. The DPP heavyweight reportedly silenced MRA officials from doing their job following the seizure of his trucks.
But Salule accuses Nyasa Times of “deliberately and systematically” painting Noel Masangwi my as “a monster” in the minds of the new site’s readership.
He wrote: “You were even the first to tell lies to Malawians that my brother was involved in the Chasowa murder way before the Commission of inquiry was instituted.”
Masangwi is among the prime suspects in the death of Malawi Polytechnic student Robert Chasowa,
But his brother argued: “One would not be far from the truth to conclude that the carefully chosen witnesses to frame my brother got motivation from [Nyasa Times].
“As a family we respect the courts and we have not wanted to comment on the Chasowa case until the courts come to conclusions.”
However, Salule said Nyasa Times “continued vilification” of MP Masangwi has forced him to come out to express “our concern as a family. It is too much now.”

Well, if your brother is innocent, the courts will let every slanderer feel the pain. However, before the courts have voiced their opinion, Mr Professor you run the risk of being a slanderer yourself.
