Mchinji businessman gunned down: Malawi robbers in shoot-to-kill

As Malawi government is assuring investors of maximum security, a business person in Mchinji was shot dead weekend by armed robbers in continued security lapse in the country.

According to Izex Chimala of Mikundi trading centre, the robbers went to Sulamoyo Salimu who was popularly known as Muna 1 at around 11pm and demanded cash but the deceased resisted to release any money prompting the thugs to shot him dead.

Chimala bemoaned that there is no police unit in the area and robbers are taking advantage.

The nearest police is about 50 Kilometres at Kapiri or Kamwendo Police unit.

Mchinji police public relations officer sub Inspector  Moses Kajawa Nyirenda confirmed about the robbery attack , saying they have launched investigation .

Nyirenda also said robbers who have killed Sulamoyo went away with K320,000.00.

Mchinji is becoming a dangerous place now. I share the same experience whereby over 7 men came to my business place and demanded money from my employee in charge. They bit her and a small girl and also hacked my Watchman with a matchete. They went away with just R75,000.
No one was caught till today. I now have a revolver for my Watchman to shoot to kill with no mercy.Mxxxx!

Mikundi my trading centre has never been associated with crimes of such magnitude. This was a shocker to the surrounding villages. We pray for protection against further crimes in our beloved area and may the perpetrators of the crime never find peace. May the good Lord be with the bereaved family and may the soul of Muna 1 rest in peace.

Iwe Luciano don’t give a picture that our brother was killed by thieves. These criminals did not demand for cash as you are putting it. Their intent was to kill him not to steal. Had they wanted to steal they could have a lot of items from the shop or his house. We have suspects in our mind .Some arrests have been made but unfortunately the evidence is pointing towards very influential guy here in Mchinji who can bribe any judge on earth and I don’t see him failing to bribe our poorly paid police and judicial staff.
