Two Malawi Congress Party District chairmen and the MCP director of research, have come out to explain what really happened during the Dzombe compound operations led by Member of Parliament for Dowa South East Richard Chimwendo, and Member of Parliament for Kasungu Central Amon Nkhata.
Chairman Selani from Dowa and Mr Kachule from Lilongwe Malingunde alongside Director of research, Brian Damba, in a separate interviews, denied reports that some of the members who went to the special operation on January 19, 2016, beat up some members of various district committee who were found holding secret meetings without the blessing of the regional chairman.
Selani said there was no any physical attack.
“Am equally surprised with the information of beating, I was there, there was no such type of the act on top of that am just hearing that the party officials stole K500,000 from some members again that is not true,” said Selani.
Kachule said he was equally surprised that some people are busy tarnishing the image of the party by spreading “false information.”
Director of Research in the region, Brian Damba, told Nyasa Times :”We managed to establish the facts on the ground since as the party we don’t work on rumours, MCP is a major political party which cannot work on rumours.”
But Dzombe in a telephone interview said he reported the matter to the Kanengo Police accusing the party of harassing them.
Asked what were the chairmen doing at his official compound, Dzombe said the meeting was private and it was wrong for the party officials to come and disturb the meeting.
