Speaking at the ceremony, Mlogera said as a child brought up in the area, he was shocked with the poor road- network as a result of lack of drainage which led to flooding during rainy season.

“ As a result of streams, pot holes and gullies, ambulances failed to access our areas to pick the sick and Escom could not easily connect electricity because of poor roads hence I felt duty bound to assist in maintenance with the little money I sourced,” said Mlogera.

He pledged continued developments as long as God keeps blessing him with finances.

The MCP member said once the project is completed, residents of the ward will have improved road infrastructure and school going pupils will no longer have challenges in crossing the stream especially during rainy season.

In welcoming the project, senior Block leader Andrew Gondwe thanked Mlogera for the initiative saying his area needs such brainy young people if the place is to develop.

He said without him, the road would have not been maintained and remained a threat to lives and developments they deserve, alleging that the City Council is just good at collecting revenue and not retaining back the goodies to them.

“ Ladies and Gentle men, this job is for our member of parliament and the City Council but they are not assisting us. All the City knows is collecting revenues and do not care about our challenges,” said Gondwe.

He said it was time they considered Mlogera with the post of a ward counsellor come August 25 polls to replace Charles Nyirongo who died last year.

But Mlogera said he will have to think over the request as he is a busy person with his consultancy firm.

Gondwe said since their ward counsellor Charles Nyirongo died last year no one is taking good care of the ward’s developments hence he has recommended Mlogera since he has shown that he has the love of the people at heart.

Mzuzu city Acting Chief Executive Officer Victor Masina could not pick up the call to react to the statement.

But Mzuzu city MP Leonard Njikho for ruling DPP saud in an interview said the block leader might be out of his mind as he is talking things he has no knowledge of .

“I together with Mzuzu City Council have erected a number of projects in Mzuzu like Kaviwale school, Gesha, Zolozolo bridge project and I am considering Chibanja ward road -network improvement,” said Njikho.

What type of a bridge can cost Mk150,000.00. Something is wrong here.

Bwana Njikho, you are saying you are now considering Chibanja and yet you are attacking the block leader to be out of his mind. Be sincere here if we are to develop our country. Ndale in issues of development does not hold. Instead of you thanking the gentleman for the assistance and encouraging others, you are on top discouraging people.
