In the run-off ellections to achieve the 50+1 supporters of the cadidates that did not qualify for the re-run may not even vote so that the so called 50+1 does not mean that the final winner has 50+1 suppor in the country. The actual level of support is what was achieve in the first elections.

APM, 50%+ is of a genuine national concern unless you have your own selfish ulterior motives to oppose it. We know all dpp thieves oppose it. For apm and all your dpp zealots, dpp concern is national concern, hence opposing the electoral reforms that will give more legitimacy to the elections and the resulting president.

Simply put, Munthali and co. are being naive if they think we would see “50+1” come to pass within the next few general elections. May be not even in our life time. This idea will not get traction from the major democracies, as they themselves simply follow the “first pass the post” practice. And so, they will not pressure Malawi on this issue. Munthali wagwa nazo (to Munthali’s fury and chagrin.) Conducting elections is not cheap; it is expensive, especially for a poor country like Malawi.
