MCP set to appeal district chairmen case

Main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) says it is appealing against a High Court ruling which gave the country’s oldest party 90 days to hold a convention to elect new leadership in certain departments.

Lawyer for the party Peter Chakwantha said the MCP legal team was at the doorstep of the High Court on Monday to appeal against the ruling only to be returned because staff at the court were in a workshop.

“We have been told to come back on Thursday, that is when the whole process of appeal starts,” said Chakwantha who is also MCP legislator for Lilongwe City South.

Chakwantha said the legal team wants to persuade the Supreme Court judges that the matter be reheard.

The district chairmen faulted party president Lazarus Chakwera for annulling some appointments made at national convention in 2013 and making his own appointments saying this was in violation of the party constitution.

The High Court gave the party an option of either holding a convention with 90 days or revert to old positions made during the 2013 convention.

If MCP goes to the convention that will be the end of Chakwera .He has failed to put MCP together .lack of leadership skills . If he is failing to organize his own party how can he organize the country ?

So Peter has organised the country despite failing miserably as a minister on various portfolios? If Peter can, then definitely Laz will excel higher.

Appealing the case is a strategic mistake: it entrenches the view of the MCP president as DC or Dictator Chakwera. He should have no power to dismiss people he doesn’t like, and appoint favorites and incompetents. Just for him to show the world who is boss.
How is this different from what Kamuzu used to do? Apparently dictatorial tendencies are deep in MCP. Their DNA, their makeup or how the Party was created!
oChakwera, this is 2016! Aaaaaaaaaa.

Chakwera is the only polical party leader in Malawi who was elected democratically. All the others were appointed. They have been changes in the DPP and PP but why is there nobody complaining. Somebody is behind the squables in MCP . Tikukudziwanitu.

The truth of the matter is that the party goofed, one individual cannot null the convention’s elected leader, unless he or she rebels.

I agree that Felix Jumbe is a traitor but the best way to deal with such people is through frustrations.

And once the firing by a party’s president is mandated then bootlicking will also get vindicated as a way of political survival.

Loyalty shouldn’t mean failure to question your party’s actions.

Loyalty shouldn’t mean failure to seek redress from outside when internal processes can’t deliver justice.

Dictator Chakwera was obviously wrong for disregarding decisions of the convention, He has no powers to overturn convention decisions. Typical dictator.
