Mafumu anali kale. Even Kamuzu used to fear these chiefs. Today they (chiefs) have lost their relevancy as they have entered the realm of politics and therefore are subjected to political manipulation. They no longer represent interests of their subjects but rather their own stomachs. The interference by Kasaila succession processes means that politics has permeated into our traditional fibre. Its not surprising that the president is now promoting chiefs…..what a shame!

The president indeed promotes chiefs the presidency inherited these structures from the British system of governance in which the royal supremacy was unquestioned. But our presidents have been abusing the powers to promote the traditional leaders for the Ngongoliwa chieftaincy will meet a lot of hurdles when the whole DPP era is all history since it hasn’t the correct lineage. Hurtful this may sound history won’t allow its sustainability check this space on political appointments
