MP Lucius Banda claim gay sex rampant in Malawi prisons
Veteran musician-cum-legislature Lucius Banda has said homosexuality is rampant in Malawi prisons, saying during his seven month stay at Zomba maximum prison some years back, he intervened by asking authorities to remove all teenage boys whom older prisoners took for ‘wives.’
Banda told Radio Maria recently that as leader of Catholics in prison, he was responsible for the distribution of rosaries in the prison.
However, he said he was surprised that the thousands rosaries were not enough.
“One day I discovered that the rosary beads were used by these prison ‘wives’ and I was really annoyed. I asked the authorities to remove all the young boys from our cells and this was done,” said Banda, the first celebrity to condemn homosexuality in Malawi.
Lucius Banda was in jail when he was convicted the courts for forgery of MSCE certificate.
The government says it will call for a referendum on the issue of homosexuality in Malawi after donors are exerting pressure to legalise same sex marriage.
O n the other hand, religious people and conservative Malawians are warning the government not to give in to the donor demands.
The government says there are 40000 gays in Malawi.
Observers say the issue is being brown out of proportion to distract citizens from economic turmoil.

If Government wants Malawians to decide on the issue of LGBTIS through a Referendum, please let it be done quickly! I am convinced, our political Leaders are afraid to speak against homosexuality and lesbianism because they are afraid of donors.
We will speak on their behalf! We will say no and we are saying no to these filthy practices which rather befits dogs. The other courageous African Leader I admire is Gogo Mugabe!
There is a difference between older men exploiting young boys in prison and two consenting adults doing it in the privacy of their own homes. Older men doing this in prison is abuse. Please do not pretend they are the same.
