MP Lunguzi launches football trophy in Dedza East

Member of Parliament for Dedza East Juliana Lunguzi has launched a K2 million football trophy to be competed for by teams within her constituency.

Lunguzi said the aim of the trophy was to foster the social aspects of child and youth development have three elements.

“The three emelements of social aspects which are, inclusion and community building, character-building and delinquency and community safety. In connection with inclusion and community building, sport is said to facilitate social cohesion and social capital among young people and adults,” reads a statement posted in Facebook page.

“With regard to character-building, sporting activities promote moral behavior. Therefore, sports should not be viewed just as a form of entertainment.”

She also said the trophy would help to overcome the challenges encountered with youth delinquency and community safety.

“Studies have proved that sport can serves as a means to reduce deviant behaviour among children and youth, if well managed,” she added.

The youthful Parliamentarian said to increase the success of a sports programme, several reinforcing measures should be rolled out including adopting supportive, bottom-up’ approaches, seclecting sporting activities that are purposeful to the youth and are tailor-made to individual situational needs and de-emphasizing regulations, winning and politics.
