MP Njawala introduces music talent search competition

Member of Parliament for Blantyre Kabula, Felix Njawala on Sunday launched a gospel music competition in his constituency.

According to Njawala, the competition which is being sponsored to the tune of K700 000 was introduced to bring people of different religious affiliations in his constituency together.

“When it comes to political functions, people of religious affiliations mostly don’t participate so I thought of organizing something for religious people, so that they can also participate in what we are doing in this constituency,” said Njawala.

He added that the competition will also help in improving and promoting talent in his area because the participating groups will have to practice harder and learn from each other.

The legislator also said prizes of the competition would be based on the size of the choirs saying, the winning groups would be at liberty to choose what they want ranging from production of a CD and DVD, purchase of uniforms, equipment in addition to miniatures and cash prizes.

He said there had been good cooperation between churches in the constituency who permitted their choirs to take part in the competition.

“The committee wrote letters to all the churches informing the pastors about the competition. They positively responded to the committee’s request,” Njawala added.

Coordinator of the competition, Patricia Sumani  said the competition would be run in three zones namely Mbayani- Che musa, Machinjiri and Chirimba and 10 top choirs from each of the zones would meet in the finals.

She said it was the first that the constituency has a competition highlighting gospel music and they were grateful to their MP.

Sumani said that they would make sure that the completion is run in a free and fair manner.

Minister of Information and Civic Education, Moses Kunkuyu was invited as Guest of Honour to the launch at Chemusa Assemblies of God.

Njawala is also Chairman for Swift Marketing which will be running the E- Wallet talent show from next month and is sponsoring a football league in the area.
