The donation was made at the Government premises in Blantyre, through the District Commissioner’s (DC) office.

According to government, at least 200 people have been confirmed dead,  tens of hundreds are missing and over 21,000 households displaced, leaving approximately 122,000 people homeless.

Presenting the cheque, on behalf of MRA’s Commissioner GeneraI, Raphael Kamoto, the authority’s Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs Steven Kapoloma said the donation has been made to complement government’s efforts to assist the flood victims.

“MRA was deeply moved to support the Government’s efforts in easing the suffering of those affected by the floods,” said Kapoloma.

Kapoloma disclosed that the funds were generated from the entire authority.

“Management and members of staff of MRA have contributed these funds to go towards assisting the victims rebuild their lives,” he explained.

Receiving the donation on behalf of Dodma, Blantyre DC  Atanazio Gabriel Chibwana commended MRA for assisting the department.

“I would like to thank MRA for the donation. This is quite commendable. Be assured that the donation will go a long way to aid Dodma in executing its relief operations” said the DC.

MRA has not been spared by the disaster as floods have greatly affected members of staff at Muloza Border Station.

Koma a Malawi especially those commenting on Nyasatimes ndinu omvetsa chisoni ndi umbuli. Your literacy levels are so low. No wonder most of you here failed simple MSCE exams. Read and understand the story first before commenting rubbish. MRA as an organisation doesn’t give donations. It’s MRA staff who contributed each a minimum of K500 to reach that amount. Inu amene mukuti yachepa yanu ndi chani ntchito kumwa ma sachet basi.

Was the money donated in the name of MRA as an institution or from staff members? Because the heading and the content of the story do not correspond positively, the heading says MRA has donated and the content says staff members did because if members of the staff did generate the funds then it shouldn’t be said that MRA donated rather it would be MRA staff have donated otherwise MRA is not authorised to donate any single tambala to any organization under any circumstances they are only authorised to collect taxes not to spend them in any way or the other.
