Flames play against Uganda on the Independence day which will be Mtawali’s first test since taking over from fired Young Chimodzi as caretaker coach.

According to details released by Football Association of Malawi (FAM), the team will  go in camp on Sunday 28th June 2015 at the Chiwembe Technical Centre.

Mtawali has recalled to the squad the Mozambique-based goalkeeper Simplex Nthala who will be joined by the fans favourite striker Zicco Mkanda who also ply his trade in that country.

The coach who has made some changes to the squad that lost to Zimbambwe in AFCON 2017 qualifier earlier this month, also included the forgotten goal-poacher, Chiukepo Msowoya on the list.

There is no explanation why Kamwendo who made headlines for refusing to be substituted during the Zimbabwe game, has been left out of the

Mtawali has sine picked Gerald Phiri Senior as his right-hand man for the care taker coaching job of the Malawi Flames saying he.opted for Phiri – who coaches Super League side Azam Tigers -after forming a formidable partnership while working for the Malawi Under-20 national football team which they almost took to the Africa Youth Championship but fell at the last hurdle after losing over two legs to Zambia.

Malawi will use the game to prepare for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers for Group L comprising Swaziland, Zimbabwe, who are early pace setters on three points, and Swaziland who anchor the table without a point alongside the Flames.

FAM has since announced that it will hire a permanent coach by this August 1 2015 and applications from Africa and Europe have since started trickling in.

Here is the full list of the 25 man squad:

Sailesi isn’t a national team material. Malata’s perfomance is just too hectic. Nothing good to write about this so- called goalkeeper of yours who unproffesionally concedes silly goals(Halawa). Chiukepo is also another trash who has recently showed that he can only do better on club level..try to use new blood. It has been long since u started using him. The front (striking force) seem to be very weak and light except the inclusion of Green Harawa whose current perfomance is overwhelming…On the back, its ok if Sankhani will be on bench not forgetting malata. All the more, thumbs up 4 the… Read more »
