A 22 year old murder suspect Bydon Chizizi junior has been arrested in Mzimba for allegedly killing his 77 year old grandfather Bydon Chizizi senior at Chilongosi village in the area of Inkosi Mthwalo.
Mzimba district police publicist constable Gabriel Chiona said Bydon picked a quarrel with his grandfather over some mattresses and suitcases which were left by his late parents.
“We understand the old man was refusing to release the items which were left by his late parents a long time ago when he was still young “, said Constable Chiona.
He said on Sunday the suspect went to drink beer at Elunyeni trading centre and when he returned he started quarrelling with his grandfather demanding the proprieties left by his late parents.
“In the course of the quarrel Bydon got hold of a hoe handle with which he clobbered his grandfather in the head causing severe injuries,” said the police officer.
The grandfather was discovered dead in his house on Monday and a post mortem carried out by medical staff who accompanied the police showed that he died due to heavy head injuries.
“The suspect has been locked up and will answer charges of murder,” said Constable Chiona
The suspect and the deceased are from Chilongosi village in the area of Inkosi Mthwalo in Mzimba district.
The incident comes after 70 year old Standwell Mtonga was murdered by unknown people on Sunday and his body dumped along the banks of Mzimba River. Police are yet to make arrest of the suspects.
