APM is not hallucinating. MCP, Catholic Bishops and PAC were agitating for regime change. They thought nation-wide demonstrations were going to rally people against the government. The problem is, ordinary people in the villages were not supportive of 50+1. The people making noise in the media (The Nation, The Daily Times, Zodiak and Social platforms) were and are urban-elites who think they know everything. However, government used clever tricks to ward-off the opposition’s efforts to undermine it using 50+1. Now, PAC has been properly humiliated. Who will listen to PAC’s bleating again?
There’s no doubt to most fair-thinking Malawians that president Mutharika has created for himself a reputation of a head of state not be taken seriously. Most of his promises never come to pass, government projects stall or are NEVER successfully implemented, there is a lot of mediocrity around him, what he says often is not what means (he claims he is TIRED of corruption in public yet he backstops it behind the scenes).
