Mutharika says DPP- UDF union ‘forever’, blue and yellow will be on same cloth

President Peter Mutharika has said time will soon come when the blue clour that defines his ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)  and yellow for  the United Democrtaic Front (UDF)  will be on the same cloth as the two parties relationship  will “never end.”

The President made the remarks in Machinga when he elevated Senior Chief Kawinga to Paramount Chief of the Yao tribe at his Nanyumbu Headquarters where DPP, UDF and chieftaincy colours decorated the event.

“ I am very happy to see blue and yellow at the same place like this. This is very exciting. Next time it will juts be one blue and yellow cloth, not on two different pieces of cloth but on one cloth,” said President Mutharika.

Mutharika hired UDF president Atupele Austin Muluzi in his lean cabinet and  since then two parties have been working together as an alliance in parliament.

The Head of State  described Atupele Muluzi as an intelligent and “well- behaved young man”.

He said the young Muluzi, son of former president Bakili Muluzi, is willing to work with Mutharika and his administration with a passion of developing the country “unlike other mischievious young men.”

Mutharika said he was pleased that the DPP and UDF working relationshop continues to grow from strength to strength.

“This relationship will never end,” declared President Mutharika. “It will continue from 2014, 2019, 2024, 2038 and thereafter.”

Mutharika then urged Yaos to support the paramount chief to advance developmental projects government has earmarked for the Eastern Region.

President Mutharika said the Social Cash Transfer programme, MASAF 4 projects and the just ended food distribution implemented under his leadership have assisted people especially poor Malawians to survive from hunger, hence fulfilled his promise of ‘no one to die of hunger’.

He assured Malawians that his government would continue supporting them with different interventions as one way of reducing poverty.

Mutharika then advised Malawians not to sell their harvests to vendors especially maize, but to Admarc which will buy them at a good price.

Machinga East member of Parliament Esther Jolobala (UDF) asked government to construct roads in Nampeya, Chikwamba and Ngokwe areas.

Jolobala commended government for its efforts to promote chief Kawinga to Paramount Chief of Yao tribe.

Jolobala said the President was indeed fulfilling his promise of promotion of different cultures and working together with all tribes without favour.

She also thanked government for addressing issues of attacking, exhuming and killing of people with albinism by tightening security in all corners of the country.

‘’We people of Machinga want to commend you for your effort to tighten security against attacking, exhuming and killing of persons with albinism which were rampant here as you are aware that Machinga is one of the districts which has high population of people with albinism and also where more cases were registered,” she said.

A representative from the royal family, Dr. Allan Chilimba said elevation of Paramount chief Kawinga by the President was a timely testimony that his leadership puts chiefs at heart.

‘’Elevation of Paramount Chief Kawinga as a Yao tribe leader will indeed address some of the challenges the Yao tribe has been facing before, because they will be speaking with one voice,” he said.

The newly elevated Paramount Chief Kawinga was born in 1957 and has served as Group Village Headman Mitusi from 1987-2000, Sub Traditional Authority Nkoola from 2000-2011, Traditional Authority Mlomba from 2011-2013 and as Senior Chief Kawinga from 2014 up to the time he was approved by the State President to be elevated to Paramount chief early this year.

He is a new Yao Paramount Chief in Malawi which originated from Mozambique between two rivers of Lujenda and Luvuma.
