Mutharika says he was part of 1964 Cabinet crisis, MCP killed his father

President Peter Mutharika has said Malawi Congress Party (MCP) cadres killed his father after him and his brother, late president Bingu wa Mutharika fled the country following the 1964 cabinet crisis.

President Mutharika: I and Bingu had well founded fear of persecution from MCP and we fled  Malawi

Speaking during the inauguration of the now renamed Arthur Peter Mutharika Highway in Nkhata Bay, Mutharika said him and Bingu supported the Cabinet ministers who rose against the then prime minister Kamuzu Banda.

“We were at school when the Cabinet crisis happened. We were about to go for a prayer when this happened so we run away because we knew we could be the the target because we supported the ministers,” said Mutharika.

He said fearing for their lives, him and Bingu fled the country, saying soon after wards, MCP cadres went to their house where they picked the father.

“Our father said he did not know where  we were so they at started beating him and he died three days later,” he said.

He then paid tribute to Kanyama Chiume whom he said fought the Kamuzu regime tyranny from abroad.

Mutharika also play paid tribute to another hero from Nkhata Bay, Levi Mumba, the first president of African National Congress.

However, the decision by the government to rename the rehabilitated Mzuzu-Nkhata Bay road to Arthur Peter Mutharika Highway has attracted mixed reactions in social media.

Most Malawians feel the name should have been christened Aleke Banda Highway, Levi Mumba Highway or Kanyama Chiume Highway in honour of the fallen heroes from Nkhata Bay.

It’s easy to be FAKE & an impostor in life. The political philosophy & VALUES all the deceased famous cabinet ministers in the 1964 crisis stood for did NOT die with them. Neither are for those was fought for multiparty democracy in 1994.
However, what has changed is promoting of NEPOTISM, selfishness and state-capture using crooked Indians to ransack state resources then make fake donations (of stolen money)
Have the president’s values CHANGED between 1964 and 2018. Maybe he is really too OLD to rule.
SHAME!!!

Maybe that’s why he stole K145M. Compensating himself for the death of his father. Zina kambu! He never ceases to amaze me. At 80 years old, definitely he suffers from Alzheimer’s.

So Muthalika, whom are you cheating? All you have written here is fake and rubbish. You have never been with the ex-Ministers and that we have never heard you in company with them.Since you became the President of Malawi, you have never said what we have red to-day and it seems, you are very scared of Chilima because his Party is moving as fast as a jet fighter. In 2019,we expect to live under the new government led by Chilima. This is a fact,Iam not joking because, the people are tired of the Muthalika’s corrupt and tribalistically motivated regime. Our country is heading to self-inflicting disaster that will… Read more »

Thè truth of the matter is that Bingu ran away because he thought he was going to be arrested after news had gone round that the Minister of Finance then Tembo wanted him to accompany the minister to UK. The IG then a white man had offered to leave the message at Bingu’s house in Ndola’ lines s. That time Bingu had been assigned other duties in Blantyre (amalgamation of Blantyre and Limbe into one City Council kutolera misonkho – he was given that task to isolate him from his colleagues in government as he had grown too big headed… Read more »

That is exactly what I heard. Now this pathological liar would want us believe the Muthalikas were victims of Kamuzu regime. If anything, they benefited a lot from Kamuzu than they suffered. Late Bingu wanted us to believe he was an outstanding intelligent fellow at Dedza. He was not. Some of the Madala team members in DPP who went to Box 48 like Goodal can give credence to that. All bright students were straight away given scholarships to study at Universities outside Malawi like University of Fort Hare in South Africa, University of London and many others. Bingu didn’t but… Read more »

Muthalika what coerces you to lie like that to Malawians? Is Chilima thretening you with his TRANSFORMATIONAL PARTY? By the way,MUMBA was not buried in Nkhata-Bay as you have said and that he did not come from Nkata Bay but,Mzimba District,in Chidikarala Village.Shame on you,you do not even know the history of your own country.Afterall,Kanyama did not only fight Banda from exile, but also from within. It was after Banda was looking for Kanyama dead or alive,is when Banda’s secrete service warned Kanyama to leave the country forthwith.By the way,why should the road from Mzuzu to Nkhata Bay should be named Arthur… Read more »
