Mutharika shakes up DPP leadership, fires Chimbalanga of Sendera as women director: Chakale now VP
Main opposition, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) president Peter Mutharika has shaken up the party leadership, removing some prominent party faces from their positions in what is seen as getting rid of Kondwani Nankhumwa sympathisers.
This follows a nasty incident on Friday when roughnecks, believed to have been sponsored by the party vice president for the south, Nankhumwa, punched party spokesperson Brown Mpinganjira and manhandled other party national governing council officials at a press conference in Lilongwe.
The dramatic changes are also seen as paving way for former Reserve Bank of Malawi Governor Daliso Kabambe victory at a convention as party president to replace the former head of state.
A statement from the DPP issued last night says Mutharika has fired Central Region Director of Women Marriam Chimbalanga of Sendera Sisters and has since replaced her with Mary Kunje.
The president has also fired long-serving Director of Youth Lajabu Malimba and has since replaced him with Oswald Chirwa.
Both Chimbalanga and Malimba are now incorporated into the national governing council.
Mutharika has also appointed Zelia Chakale as acting president for the Central Region replacing the convicted Uladi Mussa.

The DPP problems lies squarely on mutharika. It is very clear that he didn’t learn anything at all during his stay in America. When a true leader fails to take a party into government he resigns bcz people have no faith in that particular person. Why can’t he emulate that and resign? Plz old man, resign for the sake of the party and the country you claim to love. Let the members elect a person of their choice and sell him to the electorate. 2025 is just around the corner. Dziwani kuti zaka zalero ndi za chi China zosachedwa kutha
Do you want the thieves back? Do you want quota system back? Do you want cadets who beat Mpinganjira back? Do you want arsonists back? Do you want albino killers back? Do you want tribalism back?
This is what summarizes dpp.
Mutharika needs to shake himself first, all this chaos in DPP is his failure to set a clear path of succession. Announce your retirement bwana, set a clear date of convention. Let the contender’s have a level playing field to campaign and win fairly without you having a candidate of your choice and fighting ur own party members under cover. Play a role like a father and/or democratic leader. All bulk in DPP stops at you and the bulk stinks right now.
Zikuwonesa kuti APM sakugona tulo ndi Kondwani Nankhumwa.
I think chilipo chiumene akudziwa kuti Kondwani adzaulura akakhala pa mpando. Unfortunately, akuopa njoka ludzi, there is no way KN can be a president of this country. This is therefore the fear of unknown
This is not strange to this party because it’s where the party put its trust. The mistake is that the assault is happening within the party, munaphunzitsa okha ana
Ndi mmene zimakhalira choncho. kale munkakutumula a opposition. lero mukukutumulana nokhanokha mu opposition. Remember, njoka munaziweta nkhuziphunzitsa nokha izi. Kale a opposition (now ruling) akadandaula kuti amenyedwa ndi a DPP munkakana. Lero mukuti a DPP akumenyani. Mukutiuza kuti mwazimenya nokha? Simunati, chaka chake ndi chino.
Very true ndi zodabwitsa muthu kuzimenya wekha ndikukadandaula ku police kkk Dpp mutu suukugwira , Inu ndinu zigawenga ndi mbamva pano mwayamba kubelana nokha nokha
It’s the people, not Mutharika, who were decide who leads DPP. You cannot just shake off Nankhumwa and it seems your actions are making it worse for your annointed one.
