“This year’s Festive Season is a special one because this year, we marked 50 years of our independence as a nation,” Mutharika said in his first Christmas message to the nation.

He said the festive season was the birth of a new chapter for “our beloved nation, a nation that has to mature. This is what makes this Festive Season a special one as it delivers a big message to us all living in a nation at 50.”

Mutharika said in the spirit of Christmas, he wanted each one to reflect on the big message behind Christmas, adding that it was a call to each one to do better in their respective field.

“It is a call to be a better neighbour, a better brother, a better sister, a better parent, a better civil servant or worker, a better clergy, a better chief, a better subject and above all a better citizen of this country.

“If you take a look at what has happened with our economy which has been riddled by the infamous cashgate, you can surely be with me in the call for a better Malawi. A Malawi that is full of love for one another and our nation.

“We are facing all these economic hurdles because of lack of love for one another. Remember we are in this situation but for a while, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“Your Government under my leadership will do all it can to ensure a better and prosperous 2015. We are working towards a cashgate-free 2015. Let’s hold hands and work together for a better Malawi.”

Leadership does not necessarily need higher education.Intelligence is for educated people and wisdom is for leaders.Educated people need leaders and leaders need educated people. Without wise leader educated people are nothing.Very few are blessed with both intelligence and wisdom. These people are rarely found in political circle because they have both judgements of life.It has proven to me beyond reasonable doubt that APM is very intelligent but no wise.He needs wise people like me though not intelligence enough to be recognized. It more difficult to recognize wise people than recognize intelligent people because intelligent people have papers to show while wise people… Read more »

Empty speech. There is nothing tangible in this speech as he has not outlined anything to achieve his goals. He is not telling us where we are coming from, where we are and where going and how to get there. What kind of a professor is this who cannot put things in context?
