Mwawi Kumwenda scores 40 in Waves win

Malawi ‘s first ever professional netball player Mwayi Kumwenda, who plies her trade in Australia with Peninsula Waves, proved that she is indeed a superstar when she netted 40 of the 57 baskets her team netted agaist VU Western.

The 22-year-old towering goal-shooter used her athletic movements to elude her markers to score 40 goals in the Victorian Netball League which the Waves won 57-45.

Star power: Mwawi Kumwenda

The win for Waves was largely through a dominant display from Kumwenda who combined well  with winger-attack Stacey Proctor and produced a dazzling performance in the shooting circle.

“It was a great feeling to score dozens of goals in the match,” Kumwenda told Nyasa Times from Australia.

The Malawian  star-power had a successful first season at Waves, which prompted Coach Robin Pym to seek more of her services for the second successive season, this year.

Kumwenda was also given the task to run coaching clinics for the young players.
