Mwawi sheer quality inspires Vixens to lead Australian league: Named MVP
Mwawi Kumwenda – Malawi’s foreign based netballer was named the most valuable player, as she inspired Melbourne Vixens to jump to the top spot on the Suncorp Super Netball ladder.
This was after beating NSW Swifts by 62 baskets against 54 on Sunday; Mwawi scored 37 goals from her 40 attempts.
Mwai Kumwenda was in her usual form, shooting 23 goals at 100 percent for the first half and demonstrating her athleticism and aerial skills.
The victory resulted in the Vixens claiming top spot on the ladder, leading second-placed Sunshine Coast Lightning on percentage.
In a telephone interview with on Sunday from Australia, Kumwenda said she was happy with how the team performed.
“I’m so proud of how the girls played today. My target is to win the top basket scorer at the end of the season, and with teamwork l can do it,” she said.
Kumwenda said she is proud that the team is on top spot on the ladder.
“Each week we are building and that is what we are aiming for. We are not leaving any stone unturned in our ambition to win the League, “said Kumwenda the towering goal shooter.
According to Vixen’s website, a long-range shot from Kumwenda in the final seconds saw them with a seven-goal lead at three-quarter-time.
