Mzuzu businessman arrested over fake Malawi Kwacha banknotes

Malawi Police in Mzimba district have arrested a 45 year-old businessman who is based in Mzuzu as he wanted to buy beer using fake money at Mzimba Trading Centre.

Fake Malawi Kwacha with same serial number

 The suspect, Pachalo Nyoni who owns a garage at Luwinga in Mzuzu had forty thousand kwacha  (K40,000.) in total and wanted to use twelve thousand kwacha for beer.

 “It was discovered by the bar tender that the banknotes were not original as they were bearing same serial number. When properly checked it was discovered that out of fourty thousand kwacha (all K2000 notes) twenty eight thousand kwacha was fake,” says Peter Botha, Mzimba police spokesperson.

 Nyoni is the fifth person to be found with fake Malawian currency in Mzimba within a period of two months.

 On 19th October 2017 Police arrested three men in Mbalachanda in Mzimba who were found with half a million Malawian fake currency (K2000 notes). The case is still in court.

 Pachalo Nyoni 45, comes from Khosolo Jere village in T/A Khonsolo in Mzimba and is to appear before court soon to answer charges of found in possession of fake currency.
