Malawi Police in Mzuzu are keeping in custody a 37-year-old woman for allegedly cheating during the on-going Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations.
Confirming the arrest on Thursday, Mzuzu Police publicist Paul Tembo identified the woman as Maggie Mtonga from Chimphinga Village in Traditional Authority Wasambo in Karonga District.
Tembo said Mtonga was arrested on Monday at Zolozolo Community Day Secondary School in Mzuzu City.
“It was her colleagues who noticed that she was frequently checking on her mobile phone while taking notes during the sitting of an English Paper 4 exam.
“They alerted one of the invigilators who in turn alerted police officers on duty who, after checking the phone, discovered that she had a copy of the exam,” Tembo said.
Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) is administering the MSCE examinations in secondary schools across the country.
Mtonga has since been charged with being found in possession of unauthorized equipment in examination room and gaining access to examination material without authority, contrary to section 14 (4b) and (2a), respectively, of MANEB Act.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
