I support the proposal. Let us revert to 50 years as a mandatory retirement age. Akuluakulu, let us create space for our youth on the employment market.

Early retirement is not a solution to unemployment problem this country is facing. The government has the obligation to come up with policies that will create job opportunities for the youth and everyone else. The economy of this country is largely dependent on agriculture and yet government has done very little to come up with policies that are bent to improve commercial farming. The late Bingu Wa Mutharika came up with very innovative and brilliant ideas to improve Agriculture for example the Green Belt Initiative but look around there is nothing tangible happening on the ground. its not about reducing age remitting, this is a free world. its about creativity and planning, its not possible that everyone should be employed, we need to rise up and be creative enough. every person has a skill, we need these skills, if i may ask how many jobs mr mp have created for your community? lol we can not all be emploed, others are good business people etc, and encourage technical skills and help train people who can use their skills, in Malawi every college wants to offer business administration courses, its high time universities explore other areas than… Read more »

I agree with Lwazi, people who were principal secretaries when I was at primary school are still PS but I am close to hitting 45 years. This is should include MPs.
There cannot be a single solution to unemployment. Both authors are correct. However, the original author suggestion is relevant to our current economic environment. To be an entrepreneur, there are high level resources required, and these are not at the disposal of youth. Commercial Institutions do not support start ups, and are mostly security based lenders. Again this leads the youth disadvantaged. Retiring earlier would automatically stimulate survival thinking among many and they will have accumulated enough resources to venture into other activities. The youth would be given a chance ya poyambira.
