Nankhumwa, who was at the ministry of Information, Tourism and Culture has been moved Local Government and is now appearing on protocol number 17 of Malawi government from number 10 in the previous cabinet.

Politically, Ministry of Local Goveernment is strategic and Nankhuma can take positives as he will be dealing with chiefs – key in moving pawns in the political chase-board.

Jappie Mhango who has replaced Nankhumwa at Information is now placed number 10 promoted from deputy minister of defence on protocol number 20, a biggest move in the reshuffle.

Muluzi, who has been replaced at Home Affairs and Internal Security Ministry by Dr Jean Kalilani, has also been demoted on protocol rank.

He was appearing on number 8 in the previous cabinet and now is 14 as Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development.

Muluzi has been moved thrice since June last year.

Kalilani despite moving has maintained her protocol number 6.

Newly appointed Minister of Health, Dr. Peter Kampalume, M.P. is on protocol number 8.

Main casualties in the reshuffle were Tracizio Gowelo and Paul Chibingu who were fired from cabinet .

Gowelo was minister of Local Government while Chibingu was at the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development.

Another new appointee Malison Ndau who is deputy minister of defence is on 20th in the cabinet list.

Mutharika remains MG 1 leading the Executive line-up as Head of State while Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima is MG 2.

Number three to five in command chain remains Minister of Finance and Economic Development: Goodall Gondwe; Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation: Dr George Chaponda, and Minister of Labour, Youth and Manpower Development: Henry Mussa.

Social commentator Chris Chisoni has hailed Mutharika for the Cabinet shake-up, saying he has reorganised his Cabinet in the best way he knows how.

This is the second time Mutharika has reshuffled his cabinet since winning the May 20 2014 tripartite elections.

I propose Dr. Maxwell Mkwezalamba for the finance ministry. Remember for strategic purposes His Excellency, President B. H. Obama of the USA, (D) retained, Bush junior’s defence minister (R) & Obama, sananyenyeke. A chiina Gondwe ndi dziabuluzi dzakale (dinosaurs) pa kasamalidwe ka ndalama. Politically, Mkwezalamba is neutral.
