Malawi erupted in celebration on Wednesday night as the Scorchers powered past Algeria 3–1 in Morocco to book their place in the WAFCON finals — a historic triumph that has sent the nation into football fever.

Players to pocket K7 million each as Malawi celebrates its greatest women’s football triumph.

And the good news didn’t stop there.

The team has received a massive boost, with NBS Bank announcing a K245 million reward for the Scorchers’ sensational qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil — the first in Malawi’s history.

In a statement, the bank said each participating player will pocket K7 million, with members of the 48‑strong delegation also receiving a share of the windfall.NBS Bank chief executive Temwani Simwaka said the team’s performance had captured the nation’s imagination.

“The Scorchers have demonstrated courage, resilience and an unwavering determination to succeed,” she said.

“This K245 million reward is our way of saying: you have made history, you have made Malawi proud, and NBS Bank stands with you as you prepare for the world stage.”

  6. It’s a good thing they have rewarded Scorchers. It would be wise that the money should be used to send the chair lady of the women football association to go and witness the finals. This is because it was embarrassing to send her back in the first place.
