Nchalo United bashes ‘biased’ ref over Surestream win: Peter Mponda reject claims

Nchalo United have blamed poor officiation to have given a big push for Surestream Football Academy to win and  seal promotion for the Malawi’s flagship TNM Super League with a laboured 2-1 victory at their backyard in Chilomoni Blantyre.

Coach for Nchalo  Jones Napolo questioned the referees competence after showing him marching orders for protesting against some of his decisions earlier before two players followed suit.

Napolo said the situation would reflect badly on the Southern Region Football Association League representatives in top league.

“If this is the way referees will be handling games then we will not develop the game. They scored from a clear offside position. Most of the decision he made were against us and yet if Surestream committed similar mistakes he was not penalizing them,” he said.

“I might have problems with the first red card but the second one showed how biased he was.”

But Surestream Academy Technical Director Peter Mponda, former Malawi national team captain trashed the allegations saying the accusation was a typical case of interfering with referees work.

“I think the Nchalo coach must be  a talented person who is able to coach and assess referees work. Let people who have the capacity to assess the referees do their job not coaches,” Mponda said.

“Nchalo approached the game with unsportsmaship spirit by displaying crude and hard tackles to scare my players and then they say the referee was biased.”

Last month the game between Surestream and Cobbe Barracks ended in running battles after Surestream came from behind to win 3-2.

Simenti, I am writing as someone in football too, of course in CRFA, I wasn’t there at MDC Stadium, but to blame Jones Napolo like you have done just shows how shallow minded you are. It really pains when you meet such situations, its very common here when you go to Wimbe, M’balan’gombe, Malembo, Ndaula, Chiputu, etc, and I hear its the same in the SRFA and even NRFA. Biased refereing is there in lower leagues and if our game is to improve, something ought to be done. When the league fails to provide match officials and you travel away… Read more »

I have watched some of the rads games. Surestream plays good soccer. I don’t know if Mchalo can be of that level. Imagine a team drawing with Big Bullets in a game that could show how mature Mponda boys are. Bvuto a coach munkapita ndi mtima odandaula ref, based on your star interview. Its high time our football adminstrator start punishing the coaches for bad remarks against refs. That’s why EPL is the best desciplined league in the world.
