Wow. Interesting conversation but note that the structure is structurally sound and the overtopping resulted due to small capacity if the one pipe culvert 900mm diameter privided at the diversion hence damming the water resulting in the situ. Appreciate what happenned when tge duversuon was removed. This structure will work better than the previous structure.
Most the engineering works in Malawi are of poor design and workmanship . I wonder what kind of engineers we have in our country. Please, benchmark with neighboring countries and see what kind of infrastructure they are building . We can not have this kind of infrastructure in our country in the 21st century.
the million kwacha question is – who engineer designed this bridge and who is the fool at city assembly approved this stupid design?????? then lets see what was the cost of the bridge??? I totally blame the Lilongwe City management and politicians for this kind of work. This is 2018, and we should have put up a structure that would uplift the face of the city. Eeeeeish this our country called Malawi!!!
Even some of us who have never been engineers would see that this piece was a poor workmans one. Not very sure how seasoned engineers with all their experience (that is if they have some) would design such a piece on that site.

It’s only fools like u who can blame the contractor in this case. For ur own information Design is done by either Client or Consultant and the Contractor is given a job just to construct according to the design given to him. That’s how construction works u fool..
