Ngalande dumps PP for DPP: Still interested to fight Lucius Banda in Balaka
Deputy Director of Social Services in the opposition People’s Party (PP) Tony Ngalande on Sunday announced that he has resigned from the party and Nyasa Times understands he is heading for ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Speaking to reporters in the Capital city Lilongwe, Ngalande said he has quit PP to concentrate on his business but did not indicate leaving front line politics.
“I would like to announce my resignation from the Peoples Party in order to concentrate on my personal businesses,” said Ngalande.
Ngalande, who lost in parliamentary race to United Democratic Front (UDF) member Lucius Banda, said he has no any grudges against any member of the PP.
“I would like to inform you that I have resigned from the Peoples Party both as a member and as Deputy Director of Social Services with immediate effect,” reads Ngalande’s resignation letter to PP secretary general.
“I sincerely thank the former President Dr Joyce Banda and the entire leadership of the Peoples Party for the support rendered to me during the period that I was a member of the party holding such a big position,” he added.
He states that PP has groomed a leader in him “who will still contribute to the growth of the Malawi nation in whatever capacity I decide to focus on.”
Ngalande said he will continue to seek to oust Lucius Banda for the parliamentary seat come 2019 elections.
PP spokesman Ken Msonda said the party is not surprised with the resignation of Ngalande, saying he has formalised it but left the party August 2014 and already started attending political rallies of the DPP.
DPP President Peter Mutharika is expected to welcome Ngalande on Monday in Balaka.
Mutharika will on Monday (18 January, 2016) officially commission Balaka Cotton Ginnery.
According to the Statement from the State House signed by Press Officer, Chikondi Juma, President Mutharika will mark the official opening of the Ginnery at Balaka L.E.A School ground.
Prior to the function Mutharika is also expected to preside over the official launch of 2015/ 16 National Forestry Season at Masasa CCAP Primary School Ground in the area of Traditional Authority Masasa in Ntcheu district at 9:30 in the morning.
