No injury worries for Wanderers ahead of Standard Bank cup final

Mighty Be Forward Wanderers look set to receive a huge boost ahead of their Standard Bank Cup Final match on Saturday against Civo United with no injury concerns.

The Nomads   have struggled with injury problems this season and while only one key player still unavailable, they look set to welcome a host of players back into their line up for this weekend’s match.

The Nomads have received a return boost with Ishamel Thindwa, Francis Mlimbika and Jabulani Linje, who also played this week against Azam Tigers  all confident of being fit for the game.

Mlimbika and Thindwa were both omitted from the Nomads squad that travelled to Lilongwe last week for Blue Eagles and Tigers encounter but are back training with the Nomads and expect to be available on Sunday.

Mlimbika also popularly known as ‘FM7’  has not started a match since the Nomads victory against Max Bullets in the Carlsberg Cup but is almost certain to reclaim his place from Ted Sumani.

However, the Nomads will still be without underrated midfielder maestro Rafiq Mussa, who is yet to properly recover from his knee injury.

But the news that Mlimbika, Thindwa and Linje are all available is a huge boost for the Nomads , who will no doubt take great confidence heading into their weekend clash against their fiercest rivals.

Linje is one of the most exciting and talented strikers in the League —a a claim that could also perhaps be made for  Thindwa, although the latter has stayed for a long period of time without any competitive match since he returned from Zimbabwe due to an injury. Getting back their starting left back in Mlimbika  is also a huge boost.

Wanderers also will take a huge advantage into this one basing on their cup history.

The Nomads never lost in cup final since 2003 having appeared in 8 cup finals from 2003-2015. They managed to win 7 times and 1 cup final ended prematurely after they scored a winning goal which was disallowed by referee Kaliyoto Ngosi the Carlsberg Cup against Big Bullets.

In 2003 wanderers played against Moyale in BP top 8 finals where they won the cup beating Moyale by 1-0. In the same year, the Mighty Nomads played Big Bullets in Carlsberg cup final in a match which   ended prematurely after the referee disallowed a goal scored by Muzipase Mwangonde.

In  2005, The Nomads played against Civo in Fam cup finals and won the match by 1-0.

In  2007 they played against Escom United in a Presidential Cup final and they won 4-2 in penalties after a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes. the match ended 1-1 after 90

In 2010, wanderers played Mafco in a Presidential Cup and they won 1-0 courtesy of  Anthony
Banda”s header.

In  2012, The Nomads played Silver Strikers in Standard Bank final The match ended 2-0 in favour of the Nomads. In  2013, The Nomads played Silver again in Standard bank where they also won 1-0.

Come 2015, Wanderers played Big Bullets in the Carlsberg cup final and they won 2-1 .

What a record by the Nomads in cup final matches. The answer millions of Malawians are asking now is, will Civo United stop the Nomads come Saturday as far as scooping cups in concerned.
