I agree with the other commentators that firstly, the article is a bit too long to be called “fast lane”. Secondly, we expect a different result when we keep on doing things the way we have been doing them for the last 50 years. Doesn’t work that way unfortunately. Ntakataka has listed some of the problems that would scare away any investor in his/her normal senses and I do not want to add to the list because it is endless. All the same, it is a good article which takes our minds away from politics to ponder about how we… Read more »

Only a stupid foreign investor will invest in a country with:
poor governance,
unreliable electricity supply.
Intermittent water availability,
Lax security
Poor infrastructure
Highest lending rates
Poor health care services
Internet tax
Clueless leadership
High transportation costs
I can go on and on. The bottom line is the situation is not conducive for foreign investors.

All sensible though but too long for fast lane. I doubt there is anybody in the current so called leaders who will be able to read all this and digest it properly. Frankly, I doubt this country could be attractive to serious investors now. Only the dubious corrupt ones will come.

Malawi needs a moral investment before it considers to canvass for outside business investiment. We need to reconstruct our national integrity and reclaim our God fearing position. Otherwise, we have lost credibility befitting a democratic country and any investiment thrown at us will be at risk of mismanagement. Let’s not think about electrification of the country and infrustructure development but character building of a person who will be needed to be entrusted with investments from outside.

Bwana Nhlane, we cannot develop this country nor eradicate the excruciating poverty of our citizens by giving our land to foreigners to irrigate it for us. All we need is government commitment to provide technical and material support to the local farmers resident in fertile easily irrigable land in Salima, Mangochi, Nkhotakota, lower shire, Karonga, etc. the support could be in the form of water pumps, fertilizer, extension services and later processing and packaging machines. The pumps could be given as loans recoverable over a 2 year or so period. these pumps cost less than a million kwacha each, if… Read more »

Mr Nhlane your writing is not bad, but you are hesitant to mention clear shortfalls.eg electricity problem is largely due malpractices of officers and polical abuse. Remember one time someone decided to set ESCOM House on fire. How long do we take to get a meter and be connected. Do you see traits of a seriousness and planning here. ESCOM is chaotic. On Agriculture, I am sure you have seen the current audit analysis. You will agree with me that Ministry of Agriculture is one of the top list. Why, officials abuse their offices. In short we do not have the… Read more »
