MHSRIP… My Malawi how long are going to live with this… My advice is govt shd find means of encouraging pple to plant trees in every idle land available and make sure that they are are taken care of.. One way of achieving this is encouraging each village to have a forest reserve/ woodlot and only pple who are active towards caring these forest shd have access to farm input subsidy..the current farm input subsidy system shd be changed and be used as motivational tool towards environment management rather than a political tool.. And what is complicated about this. In many villages you find land that could be developed into forest reserves. Some individuals have land that they keep renting out year in year out. These people could be encouraged to plant trees with a sweetener. The whole programme if taken up by forestry and agriculture ministries without political interference can be a huge success.
