Peter Mponda upbeat Wizards can beat the drop in Malawi TNM Super League

Fisd Wizards Coach Peter Mponda lavished praise on his players after  a dramatic 1-1 TNM Super League draw against Silver Strikers on Sunday at Nankhaka Stadium, saying the result have given themselves a momentum to mount a resurgence and beat the drop.

The new rookies came from behind to force the bankers to a 1-1 draw.

Asked how he rated his team’s display, Mponda said: “The best so far.”

“My players were fantastic from the first minute, getting the ball, taking on defenders, shooting. Sometimes they create a lot, but don’t shoot; but against Silver the performance was fantastic. They were creative, they were dynamic, and they gave to the team what we need in terms of creativity.”

Mponda said he was more delighted with the way his side played going forward, but disappointed that they failed to secure maximum points.

Mponda remains confident they can get themselves out of trouble – they remain bottom of the table – if they perform in similar fashion this weekend as they invade the capital city again to take on Civo United.

He fired a warning shot at the snipers who think Wizards – formerly Surestream FC – are dead and buried.

“We will stay in the Super League for sure. We are fully committed for that,” he added.

Mponda remain positive that they can defy all the odds and engineer a miracle escape in the second round of the league.

“We will keep pushing on, keep trying to pick the points up and get out of that relegation zone.”
