The announcement was made in Lilongwe during a news conference which was held jointly with Airtel’s officials and Piksy himself.

Making the announcement Airtel’s Brands and Communication Manager Isabel Kachinjika said Piksy has ably represented the Airtel Malawi brand both locally and internationally and with the partenership they have managed to maximise their brand leverage.

Kachinjika said being a dynamic mobile telecommunications industry that engages various marketing strategies they needed to keep being innovative in coming up with new trendy approaches as they grow the brand.

“It is against this background that we have resorted to engage a new strategy that shall ride on the success was registered through Piksy’s brand ambassador approach. We shall grow on that and take the brand to greater heights,” said Kachinjika.

She also clarified that its not a bitter parting because their partnership mutually benefitted them saying that rather Airtel as brand has adopted new strategies.

On his part, Piksy said that the two years that he has been the company’s ambassador was a great and a challenging relationship which has exposed his talent both locally and internationally

“I have learnt a lot through this partnership and has exposed me as a musician and has earned me respect both from my fans and the company,” said Piksy.

Piksy said Airtel engaged him in a number of projects ranging from creating a catchy Yabooka scratch cards song and to the popular Timaitha theme song as well as being part of Mwezi wawala music project and Club 09 youth products and activities.

“It was not easy to compose a song for the company and that song become popular,” said Piksy.

Airtel managed to support Piksy as a bonafide talented youth from Malawi and also connecting with young people.

However, Kachinjika said as a brand Airtel may still engage Piksy in other endevours.
